Mercy Mentoring is an initiative
taken by PG and Research Department of Botany, Mercy College, Palakkad. This
programme is the extension activity and one of the best practices of the
department with an intension of augmenting scientific specimen repository in
schools. The specimens given to the schools were collected by the PG botany
students and were properly checked by teachers. Moreover, the given specimens
were explained by teachers and PG students in order to make them familiarize
with each and every nuance of botany. This programme will provide school
students a chance of experiencing the specimens which they meant to study in
their text books.
On 30th November 2023, teachers, student teams and
coordinators of botany department have taken a move to K.C.E.M.G.H.S.S school,
Palakkad and met plus one and plus two students with specimens of Algae,
Pteriodophytes, Plant plathology herbarium sheets and with few prepared
permanent slides. Furthermore, the team explained the method of preparation of
the samples they brought. It was a very good experience for both the donor and
receiver that led to enriching the Knowledge with skills and techniques applied
and taking feedback of benefited students.
