On October 9th, 2023, to celebrate Media Literacy Week, our sociology department partnered with Factshala (sponsored by Google News) to host a workshop led by Habeeb Rahman. This session focused on understanding misinformation and how to be responsible consumers of information online.
We learned that media literacy is essential for making informed decisions and identifying fake news on social media. The workshop included fun, hands-on activities to help us learn these skills. We even explored tools like Google Lens to fact-check information more effectively.
Afterward, students were given a post-workshop activity. I, Fathima Saniya, had the amazing opportunity to share my learnings and raise awareness about fact-checking with the Indian Post Office staff. My work was even featured on the Factshala website
